Globalization of GM Food
Globalization helps my issue in the way that it helps it get bigger. With the globalization laws, GM food is spreading to more and more countries every day. The United States being one of the giants of GM food producers is doing what it can to make the most profit. With the help of Globalization GM foods are contaminating natural crops that are non-genetically modified. If the United States continues to oppose the restrictions that other countries have adapted, they would continue to put their people at risk every time they eat a tomato or a French fry, because of all the research that needs to be done on genetically modified organisms.
Globalization contributes to political problems, because of all the differences that it causes. For example, all of the non-profit organization that are against the World Trade Organization do to try to stop, in some occasions creating riots because of their disagreements. Globalization also contributes to economic issues in the way that it keeps poor countries poorer and rich countries richer. Globalization creates a cycle of poverty because countries that try to make something for them self cannot make it do to all the obstacles that all the countries have to obey. The social lives of people also are affected because the country has to buy only the things that other countries have to offer.
The WTO, the IMF, and the World Bank contribute to my Fire Project, because they promote GM food. They support the cultivation and consumption of it. They all want to make the most money on the sale of GM food, even if they have to put the lives of their citizens at risks. They also allow the patenting of seeds a company sale to farmers. The farmers that need the seeds have to sign a contract that says that they have to destroy the extra seeds that they did not use that harvest. If they break this contract by mistake, they can and will get prosecuted by these companies. The WTO has the power to stop this but they do not.
Globalization has the ability to stop this that is if they want to, but they simply they do not care. As long the money keeps coming they are happy. Globalization would just have to enforce their laws and keep people save against food that is not save to eat. Globalization would have to make companies label the foods that contain GM material. If they can make this happen the people would have the choice to say if they want to eat GM food, but if we do not even tell them which food is genetically engineer we are forcing them to eat it.
The potential that GM food offers sounds great, but more testing needs to be done. We know some of the negative effects that harvesting GM food has on the environment and the effects that it has on humans. Know we need to see if the effects are worth the risks of eating GM food. These solutions provided are affected, because it will limit the amount of GM food that is produce in the world. It would give a choice to the consumers. These solutions might sound imposable to achieve, but together the people can make it happen. Daniel Vargas
